Hey I went out a lot this holiday, but

I also spent a lot of money too. Movies and lunches and dinners are so expensive. Gyms will also become a big expense, and it takes up time, limiting my money-making potential. I'll probably have to get out my calculator one day and see how far my Youth Allowance really takes me, or I'll find myself being part of that 40% whose savings wouldn't last for a month if they are fired from their jobs. Not that I have a job anyway.

This has got to be one of my more productive holidays. I'm catching on to the basics of cooking now, nothing like the crazy stuff Nancy Khav has cooked up and posted on her facebook of course (I always see her updates at the worst times lol). Unfortunately I won't have time during the semester to hone my skills, but rest assured I will continue my journey towards the Masterchef during summer, and maybe loyal blog readers who comment on this entry will get a taste of my fantastic dishes =D

The first dish I ever cooked (with my mum's help) looks something like this with heavy photoshopping.

I should also talk about the day out in the city with a uni friend. We went out to see one of the Master of Music recitals at Melbourne University. The performers are actually examinees who have to do a performance in front of an audience, so the actual recital is free of charge. Quite frankly, my appreciation of music isn't so great that I can tell apart the levels of skill of professional performers and these students. I'm planning to go to these more of these free concerts more often when I have the chance, rather than pay $50+ for professional concerts that probably sound the same in my ear anyway. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to going to Sydney to see Eminence Orchestra with Teoh and hopefully Ng too near the end of this year.

Summer holidays seem so close, just a solid steel wall that is semester 4 blocking me from it lol.

Droplets of roses dipped in cauliflower pudding

- I'm nearly finished catching up on Grey's Anatomy. House is too pretentious for my liking, but Grey's is definitely entertaining. I would like to see a penile fracture when I'm an intern one day lol.

- International students seem to all have messy rooms!! It's disgraceful. I should take a photo to show my mum whenever she gets started on my supposed pig sty.

- So far so good. I haven't touched animes or games. But I feel lonely now that I've parted from my 2D friends. Time to seek third dimensional company.

Lick your cigarette - and kiss me

No Greys or Scrubs to watch because of my yet again exhausted download limit.  I spent most of tonight reading blogs from random medical students across the globe (googled "medical student blogspot"). I'm very glad I did because I found some very inspiring pieces of writing and humorous anecdotes that make me feel good to be a med student, and excited for what's to come. Here is an abstract that was particularly encouraging:

"At the end of the day - your patients don’t care what marks you have.  And as I said to a friend ‘I’m an average student who gets good feedback’ and that’s all I need and want to be right now.  I’ll leave being the best to the people who for whatever reason, find that important.  A doctor once told a friend to decide what they wanted out of medicine and to block out everyone else.  It’s something I’ve come back to many times - what do I want out of medicine after all?

I don’t want to be that nobel-prize winning scientist who is a professor and head of everything.  I don’t want to be a super fast-car driving money spinner.  I don’t want to be an underpaid GP either.  What I do want, is to know the field I choose really well.  I want to be well-respected by my colleagues and patients alike.  I want to be damn good at my job.  I want to be comfortable financially in the long term.  Patients don’t ask doctors about med school marks.  They ask other doctors what they’re like.  They want to know that you can and will help them.  They want to hear it from others.  And when I look at my colleagues and think about the sort of doctors they’ll be, more and more I see it in their personality.  I see what their patients are going to see.  And I feel good about where I’m at."

Lick your cigarette - and kiss me

It's good to get some perspective. Hope this cheers up everyone who might be less than happy about their results. It's shameful how quickly our examiners mark our paper and publish results. No one wants their holidays to be ruined when it has barely started!
